That's why non-canon adaption should not be trusted. In the anime, EA and Excalibur look like they shoot generic energy blast that will have trouble destroying even just a large building.
Canon Excalibur is a photonkinetic slash (the beam-like effect was only its trail) that can flash vaporize entire lake and destroy fortresses,
Canon EA is a dimension rift blast that can overpower Excalibur even with shorter charge time.
If he get off a shot, Erza is toasted.

He can only activate EA, Enkidu and the dagger that act as GOB's key. Otherwise he just use his weapons' passive abilities. Gil cannot use activation type effects.

anyway GoB can be Open anywhere, either your front, left, up, down, back it's a 360 weapon storing for gilgamesh
