Eren Jaeger (エレン・イェーガー Eren Yēgā?)
   Voiced by: Yuki Kaji
   The protagonist of the series. Idealistic, violent, and impulsive, Eren seeks to annihilate the Titans and explore the outside world. As a child, age 9, he killed two of the kidnappers that murdered Mikasa's family and convinced Mikasa to fight and kill the third one after he and his father came looking for her. He was ranked 5th in his trainee class. He has no particular talent aside from his excellent close combat skills, but has been slowly but steadily improving his grades through outstanding effort and a strong sense of purpose.
   He displays a strange ability to be able to summon and control the body of a 15 meter class Titan. Eren believes this ability to be the result of injections given to him by his father after the death of his mother. He initially had little control over the titan body that he summons, and would attack anything that he sees while in this form but, after increased use gained full control. When the Titan's body can no longer be maintained, Eren emerges from the nape of the Titan's neck (the common weak point of all Titans), where his body appears to be fused to the Titan's spine.

Mikasa Ackerman (ミカサ・アッカーマン Mikasa Akkāman?)
   Voiced by: Yui Ishikawa
   Adopted child of the Jaeger family. She is an orphan whose oriental race was wiped out by the Titans. As a child, age 9, she was saved by Eren from a group of kidnappers who murdered her family. Due to this incident, she is very protective of Eren, and will follow him no matter the circumstances. She was ranked 1st in her graduating class, and always maintains her composure no matter the situation. She is considered an unprecedented genius, a prodigy who excels in the most difficult courses. She is often teased about her attachment to her foster brother.

Armin Arlert (アルミン・アルレルト Arumin Arureruto?)
   Voiced by: Marina Inoue
   Eren's best friend, he is physically and emotionally weak. Though his strategic intuition has saved Eren and Mikasa several times, he continues to believe himself completely incompetent and hates himself for having to rely on them. Armin has sub-par physical aptitude by soldiers' standards but is an alleged genius when it comes to theoretical courses.

104th Corps Graduates

Reiner Braun (ライナー・ブラウン Rainā Buraun?)
   Voiced by: Yoshimasa Hosoya
   Ranked 2nd of the trainee class, is considered strong-willed with a solid constitution and most adept at gaining the trust of his comrades. It is eventually revealed that he is the armored Titan, who accompanied the Colossal Titan on the attack that destroyed Wall Maria.

Bertolt Huber (ベルトルト・フーバー Berutoruto Fūbā?)
   Voiced by: Tomohisa Hashizume
   Ranked 3rd of the trainee class. Highly proficient in various hand to hand combat styles. He seems to have great potential but lacks in self-confidence and has a tendency to leave it to others whenever it comes to showing assertiveness. It is eventually revealed that he is the infamous 60 meter tall Colossal Titan who destroyed Wall Maria five years prior.

Annie Leonhart (アニ・レオンハート Ani Reonhāto?)
   Voiced by: Yu Shimamura
   Ranked 4th of the trainee class. A stoic girl whose father trained her in hand to hand combat. She strikes with a perfect penetration angle. She is a solitary type, and solidarity does not come to her easily. She is one of the female type Titans found out by Armin when they attempt to infiltrate the city in chapter 31. In chapter 33, after defeating Eren in his Titan form, Annie continues attempting to climb Wall Sina to escape. However, she is defeated by Mikasa and she enters a mysterious, unresponsive crystal phase in her human body in chapter 34.

Jean Kirstein (ジャン・キルシュタイン Jan Kirushutain?)
   Voiced by: Kishō Taniyama
   Ranked 6th of the trainee class. Extremely pessimistic about the war with the Titans. He ends up leading the people on the supply mission for gas. Jean shows feelings for Mikasa Ackerman and is jealous of Eren and his relationship with Mikasa.

   From the Trost District. Highly competent at the three dimensional maneuver and is highly efficient in using it. He is good at asserting his situation at any given time, but is far too quick to unsheathe his sword. He is also prone to speak out his mind and sparking conflict.

Marco Bott (マルコ・ボット Maruko Botto?)
   Voiced by: Ryōta Ōsaka
   Ranked 7th of the trainee class. He joined to be part of the Police force because he wants to work for the King. From Jinae District.
   Deceased.

Connie Springer (コニー・スプリンガー Konī Supuringā?)
   Voiced by: Hiro Shimono
   Ranked 8th of the trainee class, an upbeat and naive personality. Aims to apply to the scouting legion because he was motivated by Eren. From Ragako District.
   He has good balance, and is specially good at making tight turns. He is slow to the uptake, though, and his grasp of strategy is often less than perfect.

Sasha Blause (サシャ・ブラウス Sasha Burausu?)
   Voiced by: Yū Kobayashi
   Ranked 9th of the trainee class. A thief from the mountain Daupa District, she joined in order to find tasty things to eat. In chapter 36, Sasha returns home to her village in the mountains and there she speaks in her normal dialect (which she was embarrassed of doing so during her military training). She is also an expert with a bow and arrow, revealed when she used it to take down a three meter Titan. Due to her debut appearance in the anime where she is eating a boiled potato, fans have come to nickname her "Potato Girl" (芋女 Imo Onna?).[5]
   She's lightning fast, with an uncanny intuition, but her eccentricity makes her unfit for group operations.

Krista Lenz (クリスタ・レンズ Kurisuta Renzu?) / Historia Reiss (ヒストリア・レイス Hisutoria Reisu?)
   Voiced by: Shiori Mikami
   She is a blond girl who ranked 10th in the trainee class (due to Ymir holding back during the assessment) and later was put into the 41st squad during the invasion of Trost in the year 850. A kind girl who is able to show great care for others, especially when she makes sure to bring Sasha some food after she was punished for misconduct and in the anime when she looks out for Daz after he begins vomiting out of panic. Due to this fact, coupled with her beauty she has been described as a "goddess". She later develops a fear of facing the Titans and spends much of her time around Ymir.
   Krista Lenz is actually a pseudonym she started using after she was expelled from her family due to a dispute about her being the illegitimate child of the Head of the Reiss Family, and later joined the 104th Corps using her assumed name. Her real name is Historia Reiss and is of noble blood lineage. Her family holds the secret behind the Titans' true origin and nature and it is also suspected that they are also aware of Titans living behind the walls in human forms.

Ymir (ユミル Yumiru?)
   Voiced by: Saki Fujita
   A member of the 104th graduating class and a close friend to Krista. Like Eren, she has the ability to transform at will into a Titan.

Thomas Wagner (トーマス・ワグナー Tōmasu Wagunā?)
   Voiced by: Shigeyuki Susaki
   A blond boy from the District of Trost who aspired to join the Military Police upon graduating from the Training Corps but then changed his mind to pursue the Recon Corps after being swayed by Eren's speech on graduation day. After graduation, he was assigned to the Fixed Artillery Maintenance - Group 4 and had earlier been in the same Training Corps team with Eren. He was with the maintenance group working atop Trost's frontal walls, along with Eren, Connie, Sasha, Samuel and Mina when the Colossal Titan appeared causing the invasion of Trost in the year 850. Following the invasion he is assigned to the 34th squad and while they were going to support the rear vanguard, is attacked and killed by a Deviant Titan during the first battle at Trost.

Mina Caroline (ミーナ・カロライナ Mīna Karoraina?)
   Voiced by: Anzai Chika
   A black haired girl with two pigtails from the District of Trost. After graduation she began aiming to join the Recon Corps after being swayed by Eren's graduation speech and was assigned to the Fixed Artillery Maintenance - Group 4. She was a part of the group working maintenance atop Trost's frontal Walls when the Colossal Titan appeared and caused the invasion of Trost in the year 850. Following the invasion she was assigned to the 34th squad and while they were going to support the rear vanguard, a Titan pulls her Maneuvering Gear's zipline which throws her into a corner where she was knocked unconscious. She was then subsequently killed and eaten by the same Titan.

Nack Teaz (ナック・ティアス Nakku Tiasu?)
   Voiced by: Tomoyuki Higuchi
   One of the graduates from the 104th Training Corps. He was a part of the 34th squad sent to support the rear vanguard during the invasion of Trost. He was killed after the squard was ambushed by a group of Titans.

Millius Zermusky (ミリウス・ゼルムスキー Miriusu Zerumusukī?)
   Voiced by: Kazuhiro Fusegawa
   One of the graduates from the 104th Training Corps. He was a part of the 34th squad sent to support the rear vanguard during the invasion of Trost. He was killed after the squad was ambushed by a group of Titans.

Samuel (サムエル Samueru?)
   Voiced by: Kenji Takahashi
   A black haired boy who was assigned to the Fixed Artillery Maintenance - Group 4. He was with the group working atop Trost's frontal walls when the Colossal Titan appeared and caused the invasion of Trost in the year 850. When the Titan attacked he was one of the people knocked off the wall while in an unconscious state but was saved from the fatal plummet by Sasha.

Franz (フランツ Furantsu?)
   Voiced by: Kenta Ōkuma
   One of the graduates from the 104th Training Corps and usually has a calm demeanor and chide the tension between Jean and Eren. He has been in a relationship with Hannah ever since being a Corps trainee and would sometimes bicker with her about trivial matters. Eren refers to them as the "idiot husband and wife". During the invasion of Trost, he seems to have been killed by some unknown means and Hannah frantically tries to resuscitate him

Hannah (ハンナ Hanna?)
   Voiced by: Megumi Satō
   One of the graduates from the 104th Training Corps. She is in a relationship with Franz ever since being a Corps trainee and would sometimes bicker with him about trivial matters. Eren refers to them as the "idiot husband and wife". During the invasion of Trost she frantically tries to resuscitate Franz after he is seemingly killed, not wanting to accept his death.

Tom (トム Tomu?)
   One of the graduates from the 104th Training Corps. During the invasion of Trost in the year 850, he was part of the squad including Jean and Mikasa whose Maneuvering Gears start to run out of propulsion fuel. As his fuel finally depletes he becomes surrounded by a group of Titans and is killed. Jean, who was in charge of the squad, monopolized on the opportunity and used him as bait to distract the Titans while the rest of the squad made their way hack to the Headquarters to resupply.

Daz (ダズ Dazu?)
   Voiced by: Shūhei Takubo
   One of the graduates from the 104th Training Corps. He seems to have developed a huge fear of the Titans after seeing people being killed and eaten by them during the invasion of Trost in the year 850, which he confided to his friend Marco, and was planning on escaping but decided to stay after listening to the commander's speech. He is from the same group originally from the mountains of Krista and Ymir. In the anime, he developed an intense fear after Trost is breached and starts vomiting due to panic.

Stationed Corps

Hannes (ハンネス Hannesu?)
   Voiced by: Keiji Fujiwara
   A Stationary Guard who saves Eren and Mikasa during the prologue, who later goes on to become a Garrison commander. He owes and seeks to repay a debt to the Jaeger Family for saving his own wife and family from a deadly disease.

Dot Pixis (ドット・ピクシス Dotto Pikushisu?)
   Voiced by: Masahiko Tanaka
   Highest Ranked Administrator of the Southern Region Military.

Recon Corps

Irvin Smith (エルヴィン・スミス Eruvin Sumisu?)
   Voiced by: Daisuke Ono[1]
   Commander of the Recon Corps, who led the last mission before the fall of Wall Maria.

Hanji Zoe (ハンジ・ゾエ?)
   Voiced by: Romi Park[1]
   A scientist studying the Titans. With Eren's help, she manages to capture two, a 4-meter class and a 7-meter class that she names "Sawney" and "Bean" (ソニーとビーン Sonī to Bīn?), respectively.

Brown (ブラウン Buraun?) (Manga) / Moses (モーゼス Mōzesu?) (Anime)
   Voiced by: Takuya Masumoto
   He was a member of the Recon Corps and was the first person killed by a Titan at the start of the series. When the Recon Corps squad returns to the District of Shiganshina, his mother starts asking for him, and the Squad leader, gives her all that remained of him- his right arm. In the manga his name is Brown, although it is changed to Moses in the anime.

Investigation Corps

Rivaille (リヴァイ Rivai?)
   Voiced by: Hiroshi Kamiya
   Often romanized as "Levi", he is known as humanity's most powerful soldier and head of an elite squad in the Scouting Legion. He is a clean-freak. While it is said that he is blunt and unapproachable, it is noted that he has a strong respect for structure and discipline. The rumors are that he was originally part of underground crime before he became a soldier.

Erdo Jin (エルド・ジン Erudo Jin?)
   Deputy leader of the Scouting Legion Special Ops. He has a calm demeanor. After Rivaille leaves the Special Ops, he is entrusted with its leadership.

Oruo Bozado (オルオ・ボザド Oruo Bozado?)

Petra Rall (ペトラ・ラル Petora Raru?)
   A member of Rivaille's squad - a special operations squad formed in order to keep an eye on Eren and his Titan ability. Later, it is revealed that Petra and other squad members' duty was to protect Eren, rather than keep him under surveillance.
   On the 57th expedition to the lands outside the wall, Petra dies alongside Gunter, Erd, and Auruo, while protecting Eren, leaving Eren deeply regretful.

Other characters

Gurisha Jaeger (グリシャ・イェーガー Gurisha Yēgā?)
   Voiced by: Hiroshi Tsuchida
   Father of Eren and foster father of Mikasa. He is a renowned doctor who was well respected in the District of Shiganshina after he saved the village from a mysterious viral epidemic by developing vaccines. He also provides a medical house call service to the people of Shiganshina and to various towns in addition to having a network of contacts within the Corps of the Shiganshina district.
   In the basement of the Yeager family house he hides a secret which he refers to as the "truth" and upon meeting Eren after the fall of the Wall Maria in the year 845, injects him with a series of chemicals and amnesiacs and entrusts him with the key to the "truth", before disappearing.

Carla Jaeger (カルラ・イェーガー Karura Yēgā?)
   Voiced by: Yoshino Takamori
   Mother of Eren and foster mother of Mikasa, although she loved them both the same. She was in opposition to Eren's decision to join the Recon Corps and tried to get Mikasa to change his mind. At the start of the series, she becomes trapped under the Jaeger family home from debris of the Maria Wall after it was breached by the Colossal Titan in the year 845. Eren and Mikasa had tried to save her, although her lower body was already crushed and entrusted them to Hannes to save. As they flee, Eren looked on as she is picked up by a nearby Titan, killed and eaten.

Lord Bart (バルト侯 Baruto-kō?)
   Voiced by: Kōsuke Takaguchi
   Original anime character. He is a Noble in the District of Marquis and friend of Pixis, who challenges him to leisurely games of chess. In the anime, as Pixis makes to leave upon learning of the invasion of Trost in the year 850, he tries to prevent him from going to the battlefield and instead have Pixis and his men stay and protect him and his property, viewing the lowly commoners being attacked as trash.
