I second the recommendation to try H2O: Footprints in the Sand... The story story's really sad for that one.
Persona: Trinity Soul is pretty sad too once you get to the latter part of the series, it won't seem like its sad but it made me cry. So if you're looking for cry worthy series you could give this one a try.
