Anime are cartoons.
Tue Mar 12, 2013 9:11 pm
Anime are cartoons there is no doubt about it here is an example that proves my point.
Japanese cartoon = anime = animation, animation = cartoon.
Anime is what Japanese cartoons are called and only weaboo's say otherwise.
But obviously Japanese anime / cartoons are of a much higher standard of animation and drawing however there are different standards between Japanese cartoons and American ones which makes them bad or decent or good.
Since anime is of a much higher standard people expect more from it and that's why the standards of bad and good are different for anime and also for American cartoons which have a lower standard and are not expected to have the kind of quality and animations Japanese cartoons usually have. And for a more detailed reason just goto Wikipedia if you want it will be the same thing but explained with more detail.

i do believe so.
although the art of cartoon is a bit different from anime but still both of it is a product of animation.

I agree to this, I only use the term anime to differentiate Japanese animation to American animation since anime is more widely known in English countries for the term of "Japanimation".

Back when I was a kid I can't even differentiate Anime ( Japanese Animation ) from Western Cartoons. They all get mixed up in Cartoon Network. For instance, they air Yu-Gi-Oh, Zoids New Century, etc along with Tom and Jerry, stuff like that. My point is the thread starter is right. They are cartoons. Everything. From my young eyes, they all look the freaking same. But obviously , now that I'm older, it's clearer now.
But please, whatever it is. Cartoons, TV shows, Internet videos, Anime. All i want is the entertainment.

This is true. The direct translation of anime from Japanese to English is also cartoon. i tried explaining this to other people before. I get ignored. Lol.
Glad to see there are still people who do their research. XD

Cartoons-animation/Anime - animation very true ^_^
i'd like to add more informations about the two and their differences:
"Cartoon is a term that once referred to fine art during the renaissance period. Somehow, though, the term's meaning evolved (or devolved, depending on how you look at it) into humorous and witty illustrations and, finally, into animated programs meant to entertain people, mostly children. For, clarity, the term ‘cartoon' in this article shall be referring to the animated programs. Recently, however, a new term has been coined: Anime. And the distinction between these two has caused much confusion. "
Storylines
Anime shows are known for long, complex plots that involve drama and massive character development, often taking several episodes to complete. Cartoons typically involve short, basic plotlines that focus on humor more than anything else.
Demographics
For many years, cartoons have been believed to be primarily for young audiences (some dating back to World War II were made for older viewers and have since been edited). Anime is often made for a much wider demographic, usually catering to adults.
Structure
Cartoons usually follow a straight "good versus evil" storyline. Anime shows blur the line between good and evil and make the story more ambiguous as to what side the viewer might be puling for.
Characters
While cartoons usually feature a likable hero (often alongside a damsel) with a detestable villain (who might eventually become liked just for comic relief), anime will often feature villains that are as sympathetic as the hero and protagonists that might surprisingly become the antagonist.
Book Forms
In both cases, the written equivalent of these animated shows have different names as well. Stories told on paper through pictures are called comics in the Americas and called manga in Japan.

There is no difference between then because just as the thread started said Anime is Cartoons. Anime = Cartoons, ergo Cartoons = Anime.
You're post is more like , Western Animation vs. Japanese Anime

the truth shall set you free
the only difference are their origins
.
.
.
maybe the reason people think anime is not the same as a cartoon is the fact that these guys think of cartoons as childish or the lesser form of anime, and they could not accept the fact that anime is the same as those things they consider lesser or childish....... just saying ......
