Okay. I'm a fan of Vocaloids.
This POST hit me just like a slap in the face.
Btw, How can you say that Vocaloid fans cannot be called as an Otaku? Yeah you could say Vocaloids are Voice Synthesizer, But that doesn't mean it will just end there.
I'll give you an example that Vocaloids are not only for Voice synthesizing,
Here:
Servant of Evil
Hatsune Mix
Those are manga where you can found Vocaloids characters such as Miku Hatsune, Len and Rin Kagamine.
And ohh by the way those are called Doujinshi since the writers used an existing character for their story.
Another one, Vocaloid songs also use in Anime OST if you don't know so it's a part of being an Otaku.
Sorry, but I don't like the way you created this topic. It's like you're stopping Vocaloid fans from calling their self a Otaku. It's worst than racism dude.

She did said " They shouldn't think theirselves as an otaku if their only a fan of vocaloid. "
She didn't also tell that vocaloid fans shouldn't be an otaku, what I think she's trying to tell is that those who PRETENDS to be an otaku where they are just a fan of vocaloid.
So calm down, she didn't mean in that way.

I think its just right. I agree with Miyu-san at all. She's right , Vocaloid also goes with manga and Anime OSTs and not only for Voice Synthesizing. So , I think its right for Vocaloid Fans to consider themselves as Otakus. :D

Technically speaking, the word "Otaku" doesn't only apply to those anime lovers.
I can't believe there's racism even in the world of otakus.
EDIT: I love Vocaloid (songs). The fact that my signature and profile picture is from a series of songs (Kagerou Days) where the singer is the Vocaloid IA proves it (he is not a singer though, but I love him nonetheless). Some Vocaloid songs have an anime adaptation (black rock shooter is a fine example of it) because of how popular it got over the time. Anime pretty much adapts anything (novels, mangas, songs etc) as long as its popular and it would sell well.
Think of them as novels, but instead of reading it, you sing it.
Wikipedia: Otaku (おたく/オタク?) is a Japanese term used to refer to people with obsessive interests, particularly (but not limited to) anime, manga or Japanese video games.

Ok. xD I'm sorry if I offended you, but as I was saying those Vocaloid Fans who think theirselves as Otaku. Let's say that Vocaloid could be a manga or also a requirement of being an otaku? But I just said that only vocaloid fans so if it's a single anime or single addiction or anything, we cannot define that certain person as an Otaku because we all know that those persons who only loves ONE anime, manga or anything related, shouldn't be classified as an otaku. I mean most of us OTAKUS thinks that way xD This just my opinion base on what I understand. No hard feelings :D

Actually, from Wiki, the above post defines OTAKU. So, again if you have been reading other posts, "Otaku is a Japanese term used to refer to people with obsessive interests, particularly (but not limited to)anime, manga or Japanese video games.
In modern Japanese slang, the term otaku is most often equivalent to "geek". However, it can relate to a fan of any particular theme, topic, hobby or any form of entertainment."
So, if you are a Vocaloid fan, nah, if you are a FAN of ANYTHING, then that means that you have interests in a particular thing or whachamacallit.

yeah but we talk about anime and not mentioning that this site is for anime addicts right? This website is not aiming for all otakus because this website's main mission is to unite all anime otakus ok? so whether otaku is a fan of anything FINE, but for anime otakus here in this website we should love and appreciate every anime because being an ANIME ADDICT is not just loving vocaloid or just one anime? do you get my point? xD I mean I don't care if otaku means what because just saying otaku here in this website it means you love anime, you wouldn't join this forum if you only love one anime or you only love vocaloid right? Well I think my opinion is right ? this website was made for anime , not for otakus who have other interests. So if I said otaku in this forum it's already understood as anime otaku OK? xD

So you mean, the same applies for those who are active in the game section. I respect your opinion, yes that is yours. But I also think you should consider others opinion as well. If the vocaloid, games or anime/manga fanatics think of themselves as otakus then let them be.
Not everyone who joined the site only thought of "Oh I am an anime otaku I should join" you see. Not everyone, because there would be me. The point is Anime has branched out to the point that there are animes that has been turned into a game and vice-versa. The site's main may be anime but it also means that somehow it contained other elements too such as vocaloid and video games.

Yeah. Well maybe some members here joined for other purposes than anime well I'm just stating the fact about otaku's xD anyways thats not the real topic we're talking about XD I mentioned before that those vocaloid fans who thinks theirselves as anime otakus. I'm not saying they don't have the right to join this website. I know about the game section and vocaloid stuffs but you see... I posted this topic in anime section and as I said again. Those vocaloid fans or gamers or what?? that thinks theirselves as an anime otaku ok? XD It's not that I'm not respecting their opinions.. What I'm pointing out is that the fact that they shouldn't treat themselves as an anime otaku if they only love vocaloid or games. I don't want to start a war and I don't even plan to argue with all of you xD My only purpose for posting this topic is to know other opinions according to that foolishness xD I mean even the facebook page of TNMAA already said that if you only love 3 anime your not an otaku. ADMINS agree and almost everyone agree with it. Anyways no hard feelings bro xD

Nope, not starting a war either. I was also engage in your thread for just a plain healthy exchange of ideas. Your first post is misleading your post now. Your first post only plainly stated "Otaku" however your latest reply to me stated "anime otaku". Thus, if you will be technically reading everything above it would really differ when you neglect including even such a single word, you see. But of course! Vocaloid fans or Video Game fans should not call themselves "Anime Otaku", I agree with you there.
Likewise, no hard feelings.

I would like to comment on this thread. This has caught up my attention for quite some time.
First, my reaction for the people who are fans of Vocaloid. One thing for sure, I have witnessed a Hatsune Miku live concert in Singapore and all I can say is -- man! they are hardcore fans!. Even though their Singaporeans, they sing the lyrics of Hatsune Miku's songs -- every word of it actually! -- with matching dance effects and jumping all around the arena.
Second, that alone with my observation above from fans of Vocaloids, not even here in the Philippines, may be called an "otaku". They may be called an "Otaku" -- as per your thread's title proposes, because they plainly obsessed with knowing every information there is regarding Vocaloids. I even met people from all over Asia who stated that they went to Singapore just to witness Hatsune Miku's concert -- a hologram concert!.
For further clarifications on what is an otaku (as another thread has already been discussing what an otaku is):
Types of Otaku
Figure moe zoku: an otaku who obsessively collects figurines
Hokikomori: an otaku who spends most of their time alone and indoors
Fujoshi: yaoi fangirl
Wapanese: describes a person obsessed with all aspects of Japanese culture
Ōkina otomodachi: an adult otaku who enjoys children’s anime
Mangaka: one who draws anime
Wota: fans of Japanese music and idol singers
Can you see now that not only anime fans can be called otaku but also people who are obsessed with or interested in different things. In regards with this thread, it so happens that you are referring to Vocaloid fans.
So YES, I can say that Vocaloid fans can be called an "Otaku".
I hope this has answered your question on -- "Can Vocaloid fans be called an "Otaku".
Should you need further clarification regarding your question, I will be happy to indulge you with more specific explanation :)
Cheers for a very nice topic you have here :)
** BTW, I am not a fan of Vocaloid. I just went to Singapore to take part in the annual AFA convention -- a world renowned convention for cosplay.

This thread is becoming more and more interesting~
But yea, this thread should specify at least what kind of otaku it is, because otaku has a very broad meaning that differs from person to person. It can range from hardcore addicts, perverts and us (whatever kind we are).
