compare kasi sa ibang Anime that based on MMO Game style gaya ng .hack sign mas maganda ang art work and animation ng Sword Art Online + yung *plot story nya na talagang nakapagpataas ng ratings. kaya lang meron din mga na disappoint sa SAO pagkatapos kasi ng episode 14 napapunta sila sa ibang game which is ALO (base sa mga nabasa ko na comment from anime analyst sa iba't-ibang forums). siguro kaya sila na disappoint, na bitin sa Aincrad tapos biglang lipat sa ibang MMO Game, ang expectation siguro nila ay more on focus na matapos ang story ng Aincrad (until 100f) sa isang season bago mag move sa panibagong season (Arc)

It's overrated because it just has alot of fans, especially now at our time there are alot of online gamers. It's true that SAO is soooo overrated, it's not cliche but this type of anime was already made, namely ".Hack//" which is underrated, personally, I think this one deserves more credit.

I have nothing againts Sword Art Online...
But It's not that Impressive as this forum states you know...
Maybe they only watched few anime and so far SAO is the best... On the other hand many anime that is not popular deserves more review and attention that SAO...

What Makes This Anime Overrated?

Basically, this anime is about MMORPG. It has combined the elements of anime and online games.

Storyline. I'd rate this for a 3/5. This is not the first anime that I have watched an anime with the same theme. There is the Hunter x Hunter Greed Island Season which depicts the characters being able to go inside a console into the virtual world of gaming.

Drawing. There are far more better animes drawn than this. It's drawn good but they all just look cute and not the "gwapo" or "maganda" type.

Character/Love Story. The whole romance thing between the lead characters are kinda' typical for me. I've seen this type of romance before too. Guy, being a soloist and rude but kind-hearted and sees only the girl he would love. Then girl, being caring and all. Maid sama has this kind of love thing going on.

I have nothing against SAO cause' I also like it. The theme, the characters, the story, everything. However, I still think that it shouldn't be rated that high by other otakus or fans of this anime since earlier versions similar have already been made.


Possible reasons for it being overrated:

1. Most of the otakus are gamers, may it be that their first choice is anime over games, but still, in one way or another, they have already experienced playing MMORPG. This anime tends to show you how it would be like if you were playing the game itself -- meaning, your life is at stake!. Now, how many gamers would imagine just to feel being 'IN' the game itself.

So, basic reaction would be: Oh my! This anime is so cool! I wish I could do this too! Play my own MMORPG and be IN the game! -- see?

2. Most otakus are helplessly romantic. The lead characters in this anime, well let's say, have an interesting love story to start with. Younger generation today would like to imagine being wed to the person they love and since it depicts game in nature, they would react like this:

Oohhh! How nice! You can actually marry someone in the game! I also would like to experience that! -- another high rate for this anime, yaay!

Let's face it. Online gamers tried marrying a co-gamer online, once at the very least of their entire gaming life.

3. Now, can you deny that you don't get hook up with anime who have good fight scenes? Well, this is one of those animes. The battle scenes with each boss level are very similar to that of an online game. Plus, the sword skills are quite good, but!, it didn't show much of it or the skill was not that elaborated to have a comment of: Woah! that skill is great! I wish I have one of those in the game that I play!

-- that would be all for now. I have only watched 13 episodes of this anime. This is only based on my own review for the anime SAO.

good visuals, but not that awesome plot (cliche).

most of the fans can relate to MC and the story, since a lot of them are gamers too.
