> Conclusion
Thresh has been one of the most popular and top tier support in both solo queue and competitive play. He has a lot of tools / kits for engaging, setting up teamfights and peeling off for your carries but he takes a while to master though. Thresh can poke and deny cs from the enemy ADC with his mid-ranged autoattacks at early game (w/ the help from the bonus damage of flay). He's also good at midgame / late game for setting up teamfights and lots of kits for peeling off when disengaging. Also never forget to take vision control of the map. Friendly reminder: Have fun when playing :)
Pros
+ Strong at any phase in the game
+ Soooooo much fun to play
+ Collecting souls is also fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun
+ Has many skills for protection and peeling
+ Can set up teamfights
+ Fits into any teamcomp
+ Can harass early game due to attack range
+ Flay can override some escaping skills of some champs (Ex. Tristana's rocket jump)
+ Death Sentence has a fairly low cooldown at max lvl
Cons
- Takes time to master
- Armor per level relies on collecting souls ( which is dangerous at some point)
- Long cooldown on ult
9x 9x 9x 3x
Tanky thresh means he stays longer in teamfights. Staying longer in teamfights = More plays. Btw you can replace the armor quints with hp quints.
Mostly used masteries for the support role. Gives Gold, CDR and movement speed.
There are different styles when playing thresh. Some take Death Sentence at lvl1 and some take Flay at lvl1. While the are ppl who max Death Sentence, some Dark Passage and there are ppl who maxes Flay at lvl9.
Well I prefer taking Flay at lvl1 since it makes my autoattack pokes more efficient. But, Take Death Sentence at lvl1 when your team is planning for an early invade or when a small skirmish happens before the minion spawns. Max Flay at lvl9 then Death Sentence at lvl13.
(Passive) Damnation
( Thresh does not gain armor per level. Instead, Thresh collects the souls of dead enemies by approaching them or by placing Dark Passage.png Dark Passage's lantern nearby. Each soul permanently grants 0.75 armor and ability power. Champions and large minions and monsters always drop a soul. Small minions and monsters only sometimes drop a soul.
A soul will only drop if the enemy unit dies within 1900-range of Thresh. Souls are visible to allies, and only become visible to enemies if the enemy team has vision of Thresh. Souls disappear if not picked up after 8 seconds. )
Well this is the fun part of thresh for me x).Souls give of .75 armor, .75 AP, and 1 magic damage on your auto attacks. But this is also one of thresh's disadvantages. As you collect souls, your opponent can harass / poke you. Never collect souls when the risk is too high.
Friendly reminder:It's better to lose some souls than giving some gold for the enemy team and a man short for your team.
(Q) Death Sentence
( ACTIVE: After a 0.5 second wind-up, Thresh throws out his scythe in a line and forms a tether with the first enemy hit, dealing magic damage and stunning it for 1.5 seconds. Upon hitting an enemy, Death Sentence's current cooldown is reduced by 3 seconds.
MAGIC DAMAGE: 80 / 120 / 160 / 200 / 240 (+50% AP)
While the tether persists, Thresh cannot attack and he will periodically tug on the tether, each time pulling the target a short distance toward himself. After 0.5 seconds, or instantly if he hooks a minion or monster, Thresh can reactivate the ability to use Death Leap.
Death Leap
ACTIVE: Thresh pulls himself to the bound enemy. This removes the stun but allows Thresh to attack again. Thresh loses the ability to activate Death Leap when the tether breaks.)
I usually take this at lvl2 but at some occasions I take it at lvl3. Used for engaging, protecting, pulling back those who tries to escape and can also be used for escaping by grabbing onto neutral creeps.
Friendly reminder: Death Sentence can be cast without facing in the direction you casted the skill. ( Except death sentence that is casted backwards / behind thresh)
E.G. Thresh is facing Northeast. He can hook Northwest without facing in that direction.
(W) Dark Passage
( ACTIVE: Thresh throws his lantern to the target location where it remains for up to 6 seconds. For the next 6 seconds, the first ally to come near the lantern (even while Thresh is holding it) gains a shield that absorbs damage for up to 4 seconds.
SHIELD AMOUNT: 60 / 100 / 140 / 180 / 220 (+40% AP)
If an ally right-clicks the lantern, they will pick it up and will be pulled to Thresh's location. If Thresh moves more than 1500-units away, the lantern will return to him. Allies can only receive the shield once per cast. )
I usually take this at lvl3 but at some occasions I take it at lvl2. Used for protection, Escape mechanism, Pulling in someone for the kill / objective, Vision / Checking brushes.
Friendly reminder: Dark Passage can also collect souls :))
(E) Flay
( PASSIVE: Thresh's basic attacks deal bonus magic damage on each hit. This value is equal to the total number of Damnation.png Souls collected, plus a percentage of his attack damage based on the amount of time since his last attack.
MAGIC DAMAGE: Damnation.png Souls + up to 80 / 110 / 140 / 170 / 200% AD
ACTIVE: Thresh sweeps his chain in a broad line towards a target direction. Enemies hit take magic damage, are knocked in the same direction as the chains, and are slowed afterwards for 1 second. Cast forward to push; cast backward to pull.
ACTIVE MAGIC DAMAGE: 65 / 95 / 125 / 155 / 185 (+40% AP)
SLOW AMOUNT: 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40% )
Take this at lvl1, as it gives better poke / harass early game. I usually do the flay-Death Sentence combo ( Flaying them backwards then immediately casting the death sentence to ensure the hook onto the enemy). Can be also useful for disengaging / catching the enemy in.
Friendly Reminder: Can disrupt jumps.
(R) The Box
(
ACTIVE: After a 0.75 second delay, Thresh summons 5 spectral walls around him that last up to 5 seconds. Enemy champions that touch a wall take magic damage and are slowed by 99% for 2 seconds, but break the wall. Once one wall is broken, the remaining walls deal no damage and apply half the slow duration. An enemy cannot be affected by multiple walls simultaneously.
MAGIC DAMAGE: 250 / 400 / 550 (+100% AP) )
High burst and slow but only 1 wall can apply damage on to the same unit.
Friendly Reminder: Use your flay in conjunction with the box for maximux efficiency.
If your team lacks protection, go for the Face of the mountain build. Otherwise go for the mobility item Talisman of ascension.
Early sightstone means early vision control. By the time you got sightstone, switch your warding totem to sweeping lens.
After getting sightstone, It is recommended to buy boots of mobility (obviously this is the time for ganks and getting those teamfights done)
Then buy mikael's Crubicle or Locket Iron of Solari for maximum protection to your ADC / APC. And lastly buy those tanky items go for the banshee's veil if the enemy is Magic damage oriented team or go take randuin's omen if they are attack damage heavy.
Well, best way I can say is to enjoy playing this champ ^^v
In a detailed fashion, Hitting your Death Sentence means everything and having good judgement when to go in or not.
If your team is on the offense, Go in, BUT always consider the position / health of your teammates.
If the team is on the defense, Always use your skills to protect your carries and peel the enemy who dives / jumps onto your carries.
Never look down at the support role. In fact, I really believe that supports are the true carry of bot lane ^^ ( no offense to those ADR / ADC players XD). As they make sure that carries can do their job early on till late game. That end's my Thresh guide. I hope you enjoyed reading this. Thresh is a top tier support because of his kit. Goodluck in your games and enjoy them :)). Feel free to ask any questions or comment.
If you want to learn more about some support champs feel free to message my forum account or my fb account. Thanks for your time reading the noob psych's guide :)).
