OK indeed this is part 2 but will be explained in greater detail so i can get it into the heads of those who oppose this.

First of all lets define what a cartoon is shall we.
1. It is 2d.                                                                                   Can mean hand drawn

2. It is entertainment                                                             or computer animated
3. Cartoon is referred to be only western.

Now lets define anime

1. It is 2d
2. It is entrainment

3. Anime is referred to be only be Japanese

Sound similar don't they?.
Because they are

Anime is a style of cartoon.            (A STYLE)
Just like cg animation is basically a type or genre of cartoon.
Calling anime a cartoon is not an insult.
Sure Japanese people call western cartoons , cartoons because of where it is from. BUT REMEMBER these are styles. For example the rare occasion of a Chinese anime. Its called anime because of the style that it has been made in.
which is the traditional Japanese style.

And don't try compare things like better animation and story.
STYLES HAVE DIFFERENT STANDARDS OF QUALITY.
This concludes a more detailed explanation if needed i will edit and explain more.

u answered it. The fact, that the style in "American" cartoon and "Japanese" anime is different makes them not the same.

Well actually i am saying they are cartoons but different styles of cartoons
Which still means they are cartoons its just like games in a way, fps, mmo or rts is still a game. Anime is just the Japanese style and is a style of cartoon / 2d animation. if you understand what i am saying.

You're wrong about the style thingy. I just read a history about anime and I learned that the first anime created was just look like a cartoon.

Well in alot of ways that can be true but just because anime seems more well done does not mean cartoons are bad and all for children either.
i have seen some entertaining western things before
what you're saying is more of western vs Japanese animation
Of course the animation is different
but that itself doesn't make it better alone remember as that person said some of the first anime were pretty much the exact same as western series

IRRELEVANT whether it makes you laugh or cry does not give any reason as to why anime is not a cartoon. Some movies made me cry an they are not anime.

Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron was my most favorite movie when I was a kid (and I still watch it now, sometimes...) It's just so touching :failure:

Okay On Topic:
I don't get why people make such a big deal out of this issue :blush:

Both can be entertaining.
Both can either be Sad or Humorous.
Both uses Art.
Both are Loved by people.

I doesn't actually have to matter if Anime is a cartoon or not, (Maybe if a person is TOO serious about this, then maybe It will matter) Differentiating both of them from each other will just more or less make debates and arguments .. (And I don't think this will be solved anytime soon).

I do believe that they serve the same purpose ..
And it is to entertain people :innocent:

I was 15 when I watched Up. I just turned 19 now and I'm sure if I watch Up now I'll cry moar than I did 4 years ago

[@ILoveTheSilence It is not a huge issue, and im not trying to make it one but some people need to realize that both styles are entertaining. People that look down on someone because they watch western animation also. Some people just need to know they are wrong and can't act high and mighty because they watch Japanese animation and others don't. And you are an example of what people should act like.

(I had two separate group of friends who fought over the same thing and it only ended up being really stupid)

For some especially those who are very critic or something, they're the same but for me it's a way different at all since the Japanese uses a very different kind of factor just to make it different to cartoons.

Pointing out the different about both are more like Criticizing and it's kinda bad to do..... Cause, Difference about the two isn't really that matter.

Cartoon and Anime are similar in many aspects the only difference is that Anime came from Japan and Cartoon came from America. And about Japanese using different kind of Factor.. Hmmm, I think its not the point. The point is Creative thinking. They're both drawings right? They both need to be creative so they can catch attentions.

I watch both anime and cartoon and they both are amusing.

So for all the people who think that Cartoon is not that good or whatever.
Please dont down degrade it. Because some Cartoons are way better than some Animes.

That is exactly the point you should not downgrade western cartoons just because you prefer the way Japanese culture draws them. And should no act high and mighty if you watch either.
