It was nearing summer.
Chuck is currently making his way to the National Library to do something
he never thought he will do again since his entry to college: to study. He
walks down the road from the corner of Taft Avenue and Kalaw Street, not
minding those who are riding in a jeep, thinking they smite at him because
he walks. He does not mind at all, he just listens to his iPod wracking a
riot in his head, playing Children of Bodom and Testament and the like. He
enjoys the scenery while taking a leisurely stroll. And, in the blink of an
eye, he's right at his destination.
The front pathway is almost blocked by dozens of men holding plastic or
brown envelopes. They were bulky and their haircuts were almost uniform.
Chuck saw a flyer lying on the ground. It was some kind of a notice for
Marine Engineers and Naval crew or something. After getting through the
mass of bulkiness, he made his way to the Library.
The facade had a nostalgic feel. Like you could just time travel to the
70's while strolling. As he approached the entry doors, he felt kinda
nervous. Retaining his composure, he walked up to the guard and asked a few
questions before entering.
"Umm, excuse me.." said Chuck in a quiet but polite manner.
"Yes?" answered the guard.
"Do I need some kind of identification to go in the library, like a card or
the sort?" Chuck was looking over inside the library, viewing a queue of
people from where he is standing.
The guard looked at Chuck, scanning him from head to foot. "Well," he
started with a slight inhale, "is it your first time here?"
Chuck paused for a bit. After a few seconds, he sighed and said, "It's been
a while, but I guess you could say yes."
"Do you have a 1x1 ID picture?" the guard continued.
"Ah!" Chuck tried searching a bit through his bag. After a few moments, he
looked at the guard, and smiled a bit.
"Well, I don't have one right now," mumbled Chuck.
"I'm sorry," replied the guard. "You'll need an ID picture if you want to
apply for a library card." He pointed inside the library, "You'll then need
to go in queue for the registration."
Chuck looked lost. "Ah, well I get it." He pulled out a small notebook and
pen, and started jotting down some notes. "1x1 ID picture. Yep!" Then he
turned to the guard, "what are the other things I'll need? It'll be a pain
if I go back and forth just to get requirements for a library card..."
The guard stopped for a bit, pulled out his record book and searched for
something. Then he pulled out a little piece of paper and read some parts
out. "You may need a valid ID, like a school ID or something." He then
looked at Chuck, "You are a student, right?"
"Yeah," nodded Chuck.
"You'll also need to bring money. Prepare at least Php 250.00. And don't
forget to bring a pen."
Chuck wrote down what the guard had said in his notes. "Money, huh?"
"Well, it's for maintenance, you see," sneered the guard.
"Oh, that's not a problem." Chuck stopped writing, then continued, "What
time is this open?"
"This is a government building, a branch of the government so to speak. So
it's pretty much weekdays, around 8:00AM. But you should come around
10:00AM. They would still be cleaning by 8:00AM. You know government
workers."
Chuck smiled a bit, "Yeah, I know, I know." He returned the notes inside
his bag, then he turned to the guard, "Thanks, man."
"You're welcome, sir!" smiled the guard.
Chuck turned towards the front gates. After walking a few paces, he gave
out a big sigh. "Aw, man... I have to come here again next time," he
thought. "Well, no use going around in circles. Just gotta do what y'gotta
do..." He sighed, looking up, then he traversed the road to the other side,
and rode a jeepney home.

|2| Chuck!!
\-/
A bunch of girls were whispering down the hallway. Suddenly, Chuck passes
down the same hallway. All the girls there went ecstatic. "Oooh, oooh!!
It's him! He looks sooo cool!!"
a girl whispered. "I can't believe that there's someone like him here! He's
like a silver lining amidst the twisted, dark clouds, if you know what I
mean!" exclaimed another. "He's my type of guy! I hope he talks to me..."
sighed yet another. "Hey!! Don't hog him all to yourself!!" shouted the one
next to her. What followed was noisy chaos.
"I can totally hear you, [expletive]..." Chuck thought to himself. He'd wanted
to give those girls something to remember him by, but he thought it would
just pour high-octane gasoline to the fire, so he stopped himself before
even trying. He continued to walk down the pathway, as if he heard no soul.
The girls became quiet as he passed by.
That's just how Charles Arthur Roxas, or Chuck, spends his free time in
school. He walks about, sometimes lazes about, other times disappears
(meaning, no one knows where he is). When in fact, he's just enjoying a
quiet time for himself.
Taller than the average boy in his school, he usually sports the standard
uniform. When in casual attire (during wash day), even wearing
plainsclothes he can stand out. It's because of his 'moreno' appearance,
his skin color is really one of a Filipino, but his facial structure is
more like that of a foreigner. He sports black, natural hair, which he
keeps short above his eyebrows.
Chuck is popular in his school. Boys envy him. Girls like him a lot. But he
doesn't give a crap about that popularity. He knows he's popular because of
how he looks, and he doesn't like it that way. He believes that one should
be known because of what he has done, and not because of what he is.
Chuck comes from a well-off family. His dad is a member of the board in a
certain pharmaceutical company, while his mom is well-known fashion
designer overseas. He has two siblings; both girls, one of which is younger
than him. It is said that his looks came from his mother, while his build
came from his father. Chuck's personality is carefree, but his sisters do
not share the same. In fact, they are different from each other. His older
sister, Nica, is a strict but caring older-sister type. She's a bit
childish, but she cares for her family a lot. The youngest of the siblings,
Caitlin, is a quiet but rash younger-sister type. Although young, she's
actually more mature for her age than her older siblings.
So why does Chuck sentiment over what people look at him?
Suddenly, a shadow lurks from behind him. Chuck felt a sudden chill, then
he turned around and...
"WHOA!! WHAT THE F..." he screamed. But before he could spit out another
word, he got bitchslapped in the face.
"Quit it, sissy!!!" grinned the slapper. It was a girl, apparently, because
of the silouhette of the uniform that was quite visible to Chuck. He knew
who it was. The culprit was...
"Czarina! What the hell, y'gave me a heart attack, y'know?!!?" he screamed
at her while rubbing his chest. "You've already proven your point that your
an amaz..."
Czarina hit him again before he could complete that thought. "Did I hear
you say anything?? [Expletive] sissy??" she growled with an extremely scary
tone.
Chuck shuddered. He knew what was gonna happen next. "Ah, ahehehehe~," he
said as he waved his hands before her, like he was signaling her to stop,
"I was gonna say, uh..." He thought of other things that could go well with
the words he spat without having to face blunt force trauma to the cheeks,
"yeah, 'Amazing...' uh... 'slapper,' yeah, that's right. An 'amazing
slapper'!!"
She gave Chuck a straight, cold look, which sent shivers down his spine.
Then, she sighed. "If you're gonna lie, make it into a complement, at
least," said Czarina, placing her right hand by her waist. "It will get you
into a hospital... or an early grave, y'know..."
"Yeah, yeah..." said Chuck in an apologetic tone. "I'm sorry I screamed at
you like a girl, but please stop appearing from behind me out of nowhere,
'kay?"
Chuck walked for a bit to a seat, then he sat down. "What do you want?"
placing his chin on his hands that were placed on the tables.
"How rude!!" she retorted, "It's not like I want something from you, you
know?" She placed both hands by her waist and turned her head to the right
while she's facing him. She blew up her cheeks like a puffer fish.
"Hey I know that look. I'm not angry, so y'can tell me what you want!" he
said while smiling.
Czarina slowly turned to Chuck, then she looked at him. "Well," she
started, "I was wondering if you would... um... accompany me." She paused
for a bit, looked around like she was checking if there was anyone. Then
she breathed in big, and said, "Are you free this Saturday?" She wasn't
looking at Chuck, she even had her eyes closed.
Chuck paused, as if he's thinking of something. He closed arms, like he was
weighing decisions. Then he held his chin using his right thumb and index
finger. Czarina was getting impatient, "Well?"
"Can I think about it?" Chuck asked.
"Aren't you doing it now?" she grunted.
"I was thinking of resting up Saturday," pausing at the middle, Chuck
scratched his head. Then he continued, "But if you want to go out, I can
arrange a few things."
Czarina exhaled deeply. She seemed relieved. Then she smiled at Chuck,
"Thanks! I'll text you later on the details, OK?" She giggled lightly, then
the skipped away from him. Then she turned around again, gave a big smile,
and waved at Chuck. The only thing that he could do after was let out a big
sigh.
Czarina Marie Palma, as one can tell, is really close to Chuck. They were
childhood friends until Czarina had to move because of her dad's business.
The next time they met was when they were in the first year of college. It
was a really a tearful moment: Chuck cried out like a sissy when Czarina
hit him. But even so, they were evidently close to each other. One might
say they are like siblings.
Much like Chuck, Czarina is also really popular with the boys in their
university. But because of that, she's usually able to be herself only when
she's with Chuck. Since that was the situation, some people thought that
they were going out. But both strongly deny that allegation.
In physical terms, Czarina is really pretty. She has beautifully rosy-white
skin that can rival that of famous actresses. Her figure is hidden by her
uniform, but when in casual wear, her curves really stand out. Even so,
she's "medium-built," not too fat, but not too thin either. Her smile also
makes the boys, and the teachers, get hooked on to her.
The two are a good match, but Chuck doesn't see it that way.

|3| A Maelstrom of Something
\-/
Chuck is taking up Mechanical Engineering at his school, T University.
Being the most popular in school, he's naturally the most popular in his
class. However, because of that popularity, teachers see him as a target:
of academic ridicule of sorts. He's not bad at studying, but he knows that
the subjects at his course increase in difficulty as he progresses. Seeing
as he is a second year, he knows that things will go worse if not
acknowledged.
"Yo, you okay, man?" asked Ramon. Ramon Librada, or simply Ramon, is one of
Chuck's classmates who hangs out with him. Though it's true that Chuck is
popular, it doesn't mean that he has a lot of friends. And aside from
Czarina, the first true friend that he made the first time he got to
college was that guy.
"Huh, oh yeah! I'm fine," replied an uninterested Chuck.
"So what got you all grumpy all of a sudden?" Ramon followed-up.
"Mon, we're in class, so ask me later, 'kay?" Chuck got a bit more
grumpier. They are currently in Physics 2 class, but there are a lot of
people in the room, so no one could notice if anyone isn't being attentive.
But Chuck seems to mind the lesson.
"E~h, you're no fun, man!" spurted Ramon.
"And you're annoying. Do something useful like [expletive] ..." Chuck was quite annoyed. Ramon gets the mood, though, and turned
to the blackboard and smiled, "Yeah, yeah."
Chuck isn't usually like that. The normal Chuck would be quiet and just
listen to anyone around him. Although he doesn't actually listen, he just
lets his mind float away to a faraway place, or sings in his head. But this
time is different. He's getting serious at studying. Everyone even got
surprised by his one-time perfect score in a surprise quiz in Differential
Equations. Note the one-time, though.
"... ...with Czarina, right?" Ramon mumbled.
Chuck was listening to the lecture until he heard 'Czarina' somewhere
along. It took quite a while before he could register what he just heard.
After a few seconds, he looked at Ramon, confused. Ramon was surprised, and
just raised his eyebrows with a "Hmm?"
"Did you say something? About Czarina, I mean..."
"N-nah. I won't say anything again. Good thing you weren't listening,
though." Ramon replied with a shake in his voice.
Chuck looked at Ramon with a pissed-off look. "Really, it's nothing!! Don't
mind me, 'kay?"
He stared at Ramon narrow-eyed. It was like he was saying really expletive
things that can't be written properly if you're someone who doesn't like
those kinds of things. Ramon knows that all too well. But he also noticed
something. It was that there was something different about Chuck, for the
past 3 weeks. However, he has no idea as what it is.
'Better leave it as is,' Ramon thought. 'If it's bothering him this much,
it's gotta be serious.' So he stays quiet for the rest of the period.
After an hour and a half of grueling physics lessons, the duo dragged
themselves outside of the College of Sciences building, to the seats by the
trees. They sat at the same time, looked up to the tree, and then let out
a big sigh.
"I never looked at it that simple. That was way out of my expectations!"
shuddered Ramon.
"You said it, man! It was a surprise for me as well!" Chuck brightly jeered
at the still-recovering Ramon. It just happened that the physics instructor
gave a very easy insight as for how to approach problems involving
free-body diagrams.
Ramon relaxed for a bit, and leaned back against the tree, "So, next
class?" He was expectantly looking at Chuck for a reply, or something.
Knowing thus, Chuck jokingly answered, "Let's go OL!"
Ramon got surprised, then he pretended to be pissed-off. "[Expletive], man. What
are you, frickin' high school?"
They both paused. Then, the sudden silence broke off when they both laughed
really hard. Suddenly a girl's figure came towards them.
"Hiya!!" greeted Czarina in a cheerful tone, while raising here right hand
and doing a slightly serious pose.
"Hey!! How's our favorite girl doing, huh?" Ramon responded, while doing
the same gesture as Czarina. Then he looked at Chuck, "Well, I gotta be
someplace else, OK? I'll leave the two of you alone for the MOMENT, if you
get my drift!" He looked at Chuck's eyes with such expectations.
"Not happening, man," he jested, while pushing his index finger against
Ramon's stomach.
"Ow ow ow ow ow!!" Ramon screamed. "I'm just messing with you, man! Don't
take it seriously, If you know what I mean!!" Ramon told Chuck as he pushes
Chuck's hand away from his stomach, while grinning like the Cheshire Cat.
Czarina looked a bit confused. "What are you guys talking about?" she
asked.
"Nothing that involves you, 'Cza'," Chuck grunted while strangling Ramon
with a wrestling move. "Gea, gou hag ngasig to gu wigh ghis... (Yeah, you
have nothing to do with this)" struggled Ramon. Then, he suddenly gained an
upper hand in their two-man fiasco.
"Really," she exhaled. "You guys are total idiots." Czarina smiled. Then,
for some reason, Czarina and Chuck looked at each other in the eyes. There
was a brief pause, then Czarina felt that she was turning red - she was
blushing. She turned her head away from Chuck, feeling her heart skipped a
beat, beating faster than usual.
Chuck noticed this. He also knows what this means. But considering what he
thinks of her, and also thinking he will get smacked down by her, he set
himself loose from Ramon's grip. Chuck gave him a stern look to the eyes.
Then he blurted what he noticed from her reactions with a different
intention.
"Are you sick? Do you want to go home?" asked Chuck, acting concerned.
She still wasn't looking at him, but her eyes were prying glances at him.
"A-ah, no. I'm okay..." she replied in a shaky voice.
"Are you sure? I can accompany you to the clinic if you want to..." said
Chuck, still acting concerned.
"D-damn it! How much of an idiot are you, Chuck?!!?" She lost her temper
and stomped her way away from Chuck and Ramon. Chuck looked at Ramon, like
looking for an answer, but he just shook his head. Chuck looked like he was
confused, but in fact, he knew what was wrong with Czarina. He couldn't say
it, but he could feel it. It was piercing his chest like a pin, it didn't
hurt much, but it was painful.

|4| Undulation... eh? Whazzat mean?
\-/
Czarina was just spacing out while looking through the window of the
science laboratory. It was at the second floor of the College of Sciences
building. From there you can see outside of the university. You could see
buildings, cars, people, more buildings, and more vehicles. But she wasn't
looking at any of those. You can see the beautiful afternoon sky, with
avian creatures flying above, and riddled with a bit of pollution. But she
wasn't looking at any of those.
"Hey Cza! Cza!!" said a classmate of hers while waving her hand before her
eyes. "Snap out of it!" She was now snapping her fingers before Czarina, as
if dispelling magic casted on her. By the third snap, she was surprised,
almost falling down from her laboratory chair. "Wah!"
"Get a hold of yourself! Were having an experiment here, remember?" she
nagged, raising her voice. "Everyone's participation is required! Space out
and I'll pound a beaker of this concoction down your throat!" pointing
towards a beaker of green-black, vicious-looking liquid.
Czarina felt terrified. "N-no need to do that, Sally! I'm OK!! See?" she
said, raising her arms up high. But in doing so, she almost hit someone
behind her.
"Hey, watch it, Cza!" said the guy.
"Sorry!" she apologized. Now she felt embarassed. She wasn't acting like
her normal self. She knew what was wrong, but she didn't want to
acknowledge it right away until all her suspicions are proven... or so she
thought.
It is already about 6:00PM. By now, Chuck and his classmates have finished
their lessons for the day and are now preparing to go home. Chuck is left
in the classroom, at the first floor of the College of Sciences building.
There he reads a text in his cellphone. His eyes, then wide open, started
to become narrow all of a sudden. Then, he dropped his head on his desk.
He gave out a big sigh, looking up to the ceiling of the classroom.
Czarina was walking around the first floor of the building, then she
noticed a room still had the lights on. While walking by, she took a peek
through the door, and she saw Chuck, all gloomy and looking exhausted. Just
by seeing him, her heart skipped a beat. Still, she is curious as to why is
Chuck like that. So, she took a deep breath, entered the classroom, and
went to give him a very jovial way of greeting.
...
A judo chop to the face. "Heeelloooooo!!!!"
The sound of the hand hitting perpendicularly to the face echoed throughout
the room. It's as if the hand imprinted onto his face, permanently putting
a dent on his once flawless complexion.
Like hell it did.
"OOOUUCH!!" screamed a shocked Chuck. "The hell, you [expletive]!?!?" he
complained, massaging his nose, checking if it got dislocated.
She just looked at him nonchalantly, while trying to cover the fact that he
made her heart skip a beat a while ago. "What's up?" she started. "You look
really down now. Is there something wrong?" She looked at the phone that
Chuck was holding a while back.
"It's nothing. Don't worry about it." He turned away from Czarina, while
still massaging his nose. "That hurt, [expletive]! Tch..."
Czarina smiled a bit, but she tried to hide it. "Aw, sorry! I was just
carried away by the moment!" she defended. "So please, if you tell me why
you look so gloomy I won't hit you anymore! I promise!" she said, while
sitting down on a chair, leaning her back against the back rest.
Chuck thought for a while. It doesn't seem like it, but Czarina's pretty
reliable sometimes. And, in fact, they are what can be considered best
friends. He knows he can confide in her, but for his own sake, he'll only
make some parts clear. A summary, maybe?
"My folks texted me," he started in a solemn tone.
Czarina was surprised. Seeing and hearing him like that for the first time
made her fluster a bit. She blushed, or she thought she did, and held her
chest lightly. When she realized, she returned to being normal, hoping that
he didn't notice. But after Chuck answered, there was a sudden silence. Her
heart raced. So, to continue the conversation, and avoid detection of her
flustering...
"And...?"
With a pissed-off look, Chuck stared at Czarina, "You really wanna know,
don't you?"
"I promised I won't hit you anymore, right?" replied Czarina in a light
tone.
"Whatever," said Chuck, placing his hands by his waist. "You won't stick up
to your words, anyway. Right?"
Czarina relaxed, then she giggled at Chuck a bit. "Come on, tell me!" she
demanded.
He sighed, exhaled a lot. "Well," he started, "it's not like you'll stop
hitting me anyway. You'll just pester me with questions later on," he
mumbled while sitting down on a chair. He noticed Czarina was glaring at
him, smiling with an expectant look on her face.
"So my parents texted me," he said, looking out through the window of the
classroom. "Said that they'll have to cut my allowances for the rest of the
year. It's only temporary though." Chuck didn't look like worried while
saying it out. "That kind of thing, I don't really mind. The one that
bothered me is what they told me after that." He looked really serious
while saying that.
"And," Czarina hesitated, "what was it about?"
"...dy," he said with a low volume.
"Hmm? What was it again?"
"..dy," again with a low volume.
"I can't hear you. Louder, please?"
"I SAID TO STUDY, God DAMN IT!!!!" He shouted it out and it looked like he
was gonna go on a rampage. When he looked at Czarina, he saw her making a
blank face. It was insulting, a bit insulting. He felt it right there.
"Don't gimme that look, crazy [expletive]," Chuck mumbled, turning his head away
from the chuckling Czarina. She was smiling like an lunatic idiot, and she
couldn't stop it, because of the way he said that study bit. She was trying
very hard not to laugh, even covering her mouth.
"So," she said, still holding back, "what's wrong about that? Pufufu..."
Chuck got a bit pissed-off, but he persevered, thinking that there's no
meaning to being angry about that. So, he just continued. "Eherm," clearing
his throat. "so, as I was saying, they were pointing out that if I can
churn out my grades higher than before, they might consider reducing the
threshold of my allowance cut," he continued, crossing his arms before him.
"So, what's up with that?" she stopped laughing, but she was still smiling.
"I thought you don't care about the allowance cut? More so, your grades
aren't that low, if you ask me," she asked, as if proving a point of some
sort.
"It's not that I don't want an allowance cut," he explained, placing his
hand over the armrest of a chair. "The problem is that this is THEM we're
talking about!" he exclaimed, pointing his finger towards his cellphone.
"I don't get it.." replied a confused Czarina, scratching the back of her
head.
"You've met my folks once, right?"
She glanced up to the ceiling, "Yeah, a couple of times, yeah."
"What do you think of them, as your first impression of them?" he asked,
glaring his narrowly opened eyes towards her.
She thought for a bit, crossing her arms while she walked a few steps.
"They were..." she answered, "Pretty intimidating, I guess?"
"See what I mean?" he exclaimed, raising his arms shoulder-wise, spreading
his hands out as if he made a point.
Czarina wondered what he meant, looking at Chuck with much confusion. "I
don't see the analogy of your explanation," she pointed out. "What's with
it about them being intimidating?" she asked, while leaning back to a chair
herself.
Chuck grunted. He looked at her again with narrow-eyes, like he's getting
pissed-off at her. Then, he let out a big sigh. "Damn it, Cza. For an honor
student, you're pretty stupid."
True enough, Czarina is an honor student.
Czarina blushed. "Well," replied a flustered Czarina, "I'm sorry if I'm not
socially intelligent!" She held his neck with the intent to strangle, and
growled: "GODDAMN IT, CHUCK. DON'T PLAY CHARADES WITH ME...."
Chuck became terrified. He went pale. Czarina then released him from bind,
then he checked his neck if he had any injury. When he thought he was okay,
he started. "They're kinda like an authoritarian rule, or something." Chuck
sat down on a nearby chair. "It's when at times like this that I'm most
afraid of them."
Czarina shook her head, "I still don't get it."
"Well," Chuck continued, "in simplest terms, what looks like a request from
them is actually an order." He pulled out his phone and showed Czarina the
message Chuck's parents sent to him. "What looks like a nice condition is
actually what they really want," he explained, pointing at the part of the
text which says that he should study.
"So what you're saying is that you are ordered to study, right?" she
clarified.
Chuck nodded in agreement. "That's the gist of it," he replied, putting his
phone back in the compartment in his sling bag. "You should see them when
they are pulling out something like this." He pulled up his eyelids, "They
say it with the most vicious of smiles."
Czarina let out a slight laugh. She was laughing at the face that Chuck
tried to imitate. "Pufufu... stop it, idiot!" She tried to cover her face
that was almost past the limit of not-laughing. "If the wind blows and
you're still doing that face, it's gonna be permanent, y'know?"
Chuck was still holding his eyelids back. "So? I look good, don't I?" he
defended. "Familiarize yourself with this face, so you'll know when to run
away from my parents!" he said, waving his face left and right. Then, he
hit his face (unintentionally) on the wall of the classroom. "..."
Czarina couldn't hold it any longer. Chuck's last stunt really filled her
laughing limit to the brim that she laughed out loud like a lunatic.
"Hahahahaha!! Stop it, damn it!! I can't... hahaha... breathe... hahaha!!!"
Suddenly, Chuck placed his hand on Czarina's head. He gave her a slight
pat. She stopped laughing, replacing the noise with awkward silence. When
she looked up, Chuck was smiling at her. "I made you happy without
realizing it. Please stay that way."
Those words almost made Czarina's tears well up. But she stopped halfway,
realizing that part of the reason Chuck acted that way was to cheer her up.
"Thanks! I wanna hug you right now!" she said, with a smile that she
couldn't keep to herself.
Chuck opened his arms wide, suggesting that Czarina can do what she said.
In an instant, she embraced him, wrapping her arms around him. He
reciprocated the gesture, held her tightly, but not too tight. He can feel
her shaking, but he didn't say anything about it. He knows that if he said
something, he'll either break her fragile smile, or have his nose broken in
parts.

"EEEEHHHH!!!!!" screamed both Czarina and Ramon in synchronous awe and
slight disgust.
"Ugh," said an irritated Chuck. He chugged down a bottle of cola, took a
bite of the burger he's holding, and chugged down his cola again. It was
lunch time at T University. Everyone was busy moving up and about almost
everywhere, preparing for their next classes, going home, or going
someplace else other than school or home.
"What's up with that reaction, people?" Chuck asked. "I sense disgust from
you, and I think you're overreacting."
"Well," answered Czarina, "you going to a library is like winning a lottery
at the very moment you wage your bet at the betting station."
Chuck did the narrow-eyed routine again, staring intensely at Czarina.
"What are you getting at?" asked the boy.
"She said it's pretty much impossible or right next to it," replied Ramon.
Chuck banged down his bottle of cola on the table, causing everyone in the
karinderya to get startled. Then they looked straight at Chuck's table.
Feeling the pressure caused by the other people, Ramon stood up and made an
excuse. "Sorry for startling you people! There's no fight happening here,
my friend is just angry at something!"
"Ugh," Chuck grumbled, holding his head down. "Talking to you people is
meaningless." He stood up, grabbed his sling bag, and went out of the
eatery. The other two followed suit. When they were out, the two tried to
coax Chuck out of his anger.
"Aww, c'mon Chuck!" Czarina said. "We're just trying to tease you, is all!"
She put her hand over Chuck's shoulder. "No need to get all hot-headed
about that, okay?"
"'Tease' my foot, [expletive]," answered an infuriated Chuck. He removed Czarina's
arm from his shoulder, and walked faster. She could only watch Chuck speed
away, thinking that she might have hurt his feelings. Czarina turned to
Ramon, "Why didn't you say something?"
Ramon shook his head. "There was nothing to say." He pulled out his
cellphone from his bag, "If he's really angry, the best thing to do is to
let him cool down," he said, while tapping his fingers on the keypad of his
phone. "I wanted to apologize, but you kept adding lighter fluid to the
forest fire."
"I wanted to apologize, too," she defended. "But..."
"But...?" Ramon was trying to pry out something like an expected answer out
of Czarina. But Czarina seemed like she did not want to continue her
defense. Most likely, she was hiding something.
"But I'm likely to say something like what I really feel..." Czarina got
surprised, with her heart suddenly racing like mad. She looked at Ramon,
because she knew it was him who imitated her way of speaking and saying
that kind of thing. She couldn't react at first (stunned), but when she
came to she held Ramon by his collar. "Damn bastard, you..." her eyes were
flaring with (fake) anger.
"Wasn't I telling the truth?" said Ramon while resting his head on his arms
raised cross behind his head. "There's no meaning in denying something that
is true, right?" There were people starting to gather around them because
they thought it was something really serious.
Czarina couldn't answer. It was true. She knew it was true. And it hurts
the more because it was the truth. She let go of her grip on Ramon slowly,
looking down to the ground like she was depressed. When she had totally let
go, Ramon turned to the crowd. "Alright people, if you want to see the
rest, pay yer [expletive] admission fee!" he shouted. With different reactions,
the crowd dispersed.
When the people went away, Czarina started to walk as well. Ramon didn't
chase after her, but he looked at her while she walked away. "She's not
being honest at all," he thought to himself. "If she were a bit more true
to herself, she might have a chance with him." Ramon shook his head, then
went away to school.
<--->---<--->
"Damn [expletive]," Chuck thought. He was still upset at the comments Czarina and
Ramon threw at him about him going to the library. "Such wonderful friends
I have!!" he shouted, looking up to the trees as he was walking towards his
class. Spectators were surprised, thinking that Chuck had lost his head.
But Chuck felt the stinging sensation of eyes piercing through his body. He
felt embarassed, then quickly left the scene.
When he had gotten away from public scandal, he rummaged through his sling
bag and got his cellphone. He fiddled with it a bit while walking about to
his next class, opening his calendar. "Oh," he gasped. "I scheduled it
tomorrow, huh?" He was referring to his registration at the National
Library, which he planned for tomorrow. "Better get my requirements in
check before anything." He put back his phone in his sling bag and strolled
away.
Later that evening after classes, Chuck went out a few classmates including
Ramon to play a bit of DotA. They played for two hours, raving and ranting
about their gameplay afterwards. After playing, the group decided to eat,
but Chuck expressed that he wanted to go home.
"But you just live nearby, right?" asked one of his classmates.
"Yeah, but I'm really tired. I wanna call it a day now," he stressed. Chuck
stretched his arms upward, telling them that he was tired.
"You sure? C'mon, it a rare chance that we get to be with the great Chuck
Roxas, master of being the chick magnet of our humble class," exclaimed
another classmate.
"Haha," Chuck laughed with sarcasm. "There's always a next time. Don't
worry, I'll go out with you guys again sometime."
"Well," one responded. "Can't do anything about that. Right, Ramon?"
Ramon nodded. "Yeah, just leave him be for now. He's got girl problems."
"Seriously?" everyone asked in unison. They just got shocked, and Ramon
enjoyed their awed expressions.
"Can it, Mon!" Chuck shouted to Ramon. "And don't everyone get the wrong
idea!" he turned to everyone else.
"But the description fits the bill, you have problems with Cza..." Before
Ramon could finish what he was going to say, Chuck stuck a burger in
Ramon's mouth, barely enabling him to breathe. Chuck furiously ran away
from them as he hears screams of revenge from Ramon. He was smiling like a
lunatic while he made his escape.
While Chuck was running, something dropped from the compartment of his
sling bag. It was something wrapped in a plastic bag. Then, a girl with
glasses picked it up. She was curious as to what it was, and she didn't
know where it came from. So, she kept it, assuming that she will meet with
the owner of the plastic pack.
<--->---<--->
It was a sunny and humid Thursday afternoon. Chuck is walking down the
sidewalk along Kalaw Avenue. Same scenery as the last time he passed
through there. It was still nostalgic and such. As he approached the
National Library, he came through a crowd, still like last time, holding a
bunch of documents. They were still hiring. Chuck wondered if there were
people who are actually hired.
He went through the front gate of the building. "At last," he thought to
himself. "The moment of truth." He walked towards the entrance, let the
guard inspect his belongings, then entered the building. His tension
started to rise. "Damn," he thought, "I've never been this nervous before.
Is it because of the people?"
He looked around. He saw a long line of people near the entrance. "Is that
where I go?" he asked himself. He looked around some more. By his right, he
saw the baggage counter. Chuck walked towards there and prepared his
belongings. There was a girl standing by the deposit side, talking to the
clerk.
Chuck was rummaging through his stuff. Then he broke a slight sweat. "Huh?"
he asked himself, "where is it?" He rummaged through his stuff once more,
opening most of the pockets of his sling bag. When he still found nothing,
he could only mutter. "[Expletive]..."
The girl in front of him looked towards him. She looked at Chuck, stared at
his face. He noticed the girl looking at him. He got nervous. "Wh-what is
it?" he asked in a shaky tone.
"Perhaps, you are looking for something?" the girl asked.
"Y-yeah. Something like that..." Chuck was starting to lose his composure.
He felt cold sweat running down his face, like he was constipated. He
couldn't think straight because he knows he'll lose precious time if he let
it go.
The girl reached towards her pocket and pulled out a plastic pack. Chuck
instantly recognized it and tried to grab it from her. Noticing this
movement, the girl instantly turned her side which holds the pack away from
him. "Hold it, stranger," she said, placing her palm right in front of
Chuck's face. "Before I give this to you, tell me what's inside."
"Pictures!" he answered without hesitation. "They're my pictures, four
pieces of 1 x 1 pics with red background. You can check it if you want to,
they're all me, anyway!!"
The glasses girl smiled at him. "So it is you," she sighed with relief. "I
guess I deduced correct."
Chuck dropped his head slightly to his right side. He was expressing
confusion. "What do you mean?" he asked.
The girl fixed her glasses by slightly lifting it up with her index finger.
"It is indeed a 1 x 1 ID picture with a red background. I have decucted
that you will be using it for registration purposes."
"How come?" asked Chuck.
She gave the pack to Chuck. "It's there," she answered, pointing to the
pack. "The name of the studio on the pack is the one and only studio with
that name around this area. And it is located within the vicinity of the
library." She paused, crossing her arms before her. "My guess is that
sometime ago you went here to get a library card, but you didn't know of
the requirements so you went out to find a photo studio to get an ID
picture. And, as I said, the nearest studio is the one whose name is found
on that pack."
Chuck was amazed at her insight. "Wow," he praised, "you're really smart!"
He held his chin, "But, what if you were wrong?"
"Then you wouldn't get your pictures back," she answered.
Chuck froze up for a while. He did realize that he was very lucky. "Thank
you," he said. "But it wasn't 'sometime ago.' It was about three days ago.
And about the studio, well, I thought I should go home after getting those
pictures."
"Oh," she placed her hand under her chin, "is that so?" She turned around
and started to walk away. Then, suddenly, she turned around again towards
him. "Well, you better get in line now," she stated, pointing towards the
long queue. "Or you would rather wait until end of lunch time?"
Chuck turned his head towards the line, "Crap!" he said. He turned to the
girl and he said "Thanks! I owe you a lot!" The girl fixed her glasses
again with her index finger, "No problem," she said with a slightly devious
smile. She then turned away and walked towards the stairs. Chuck got in
line right before another person got in, but he looked at the girl who
helped him while she was climbing the stairs.
For the first time in his life, Chuck felt admiration.

Is this your own story? If it is, I will be really impress. It is nicely written. The plot is really well written, it is clear and organize. The vocabularies are well understood and showed some complexity but able to show the meaning. Job well done!

It got kinda long, sorry.
Anyway...
Thanks. As for who did it, yes, it was me. I'm barely able to squeeze time for thought since I write during breaktimes at the office, so I apologize if I miss anything (like spelling or grammar).
My intention was to bring a Filipino-themed, college-slice-of-life, loosely-anime-based, comedic story. And I didn't realize each "Page" to be this long, apologies.
I'll be hosting this story on another site, so please feel free to read on.
(Details later.)
Anyway...

I am impressed. You did a really good job in this story. As for the grammar, I tried to view the sentence construction, inversions, subject-verb agreement, articles and used of other grammar rules- it really follows them. I don't see any grammar flaws as of now.

Done! Read Libraryhere . This should lessen the burden on the forums. Another reason is that I want to preserve some of the dialogues (ones that I replaced with [expletive]).
